It is 10 years now that COERR Aranyaprathet and Enfants du Mekong Thailand have been providing sponsorship program for poor children in Sakaew and Surin Provinces. In 2005, the program started to support 41 children in Sakaew Province, most of them are children whose parents or grandparents were landmine amputees, resulting from stepping on landmines that remained on the border area since the time of the civil war in the neighboring country. Thus they became disabled and could hardly get job and earn enough to pay for family’s cost of living. The plights of these children were recognized. Therefore, sponsorship program supported by Enfants du Mekong has enabled these poor children to pay their daily food, transportation to school, uniform, and stationery. Presently the number of the poor children under Enfant du Mekong sponsorship program has reached 138, covering 121 in Sakaew and 17 in Surin Province.
